Trichomoniasis or simply “trik”
This is a tricky parasite that can infect you and cause symptoms ranging from serious to annoying to none at all.
How would I get it?
- Spread through unprotected sex with an infected partner, including mutual masturbation and sharing of sex toys
- More common in people who have multiple partners
What kind of symptoms could I have if I am infected?
Some people have symptoms of the infection while others have none.
Vaginal symptoms:
- Itchiness
- Yellowish-green, frothy, malodorous vaginal discharge
- Pain or burning when peeing
- Pain during sex
Penile symptoms:
- Pain or burning when peeing
- Discharge from the penis
How do I prevent this?
- Condoms
How do I get tested?
- Urine or a swab of affected/exposed areas
- Results take about a week to come back
What if I test positive?
- Trik isn’t too tricky for us! Once diagnosed it can be cured with a course of antibiotics.
- Although this is not a “Publically reportable disease”, it can be helpful to have current partners treated….. otherwise you may just be passing it back and forth to eachother.
- The infection can cause serious health problems if untreated and even increase your chance of getting HIV
