Trichomoniasis

Trichomoniasis (trich) is a parasite and the most common non-viral STI globally.

How would I get it?

  • Spread through unprotected sex with an infected partner, including mutual masturbation and sharing of sex toys
  • More common in people who have multiple partners

What kind of symptoms could I have if I am infected?

  • Some people have symptoms of the infection while others have none.

Vaginal symptoms:

  • Itchiness
  • Yellowish-green, frothy, malodorous vaginal discharge
  • Pain or burning when peeing
  • Pain during sex

Penile symptoms:

  • Pain or burning when peeing
  • Discharge from the penis

How do I prevent this?

  • Condoms remain the best method

How do I get tested?

  • Urine and/or swabs of exposed sites; expect results to come back in 1-2 weeks

What if I test positive?

  • This infection is treated with antibiotics and curable
  • We recommend you notify all sexual partners to reduce the risk of reinfection to yourself and others
