Trichomoniasis
Trichomoniasis (trich) is a parasite and the most common non-viral STI globally.
How would I get it?
- Spread through unprotected sex with an infected partner, including mutual masturbation and sharing of sex toys
- More common in people who have multiple partners
What kind of symptoms could I have if I am infected?
- Some people have symptoms of the infection while others have none.
Vaginal symptoms:
- Itchiness
- Yellowish-green, frothy, malodorous vaginal discharge
- Pain or burning when peeing
- Pain during sex
Penile symptoms:
- Pain or burning when peeing
- Discharge from the penis
How do I prevent this?
- Condoms remain the best method
How do I get tested?
- Urine and/or swabs of exposed sites; expect results to come back in 1-2 weeks
What if I test positive?
- This infection is treated with antibiotics and curable
- We recommend you notify all sexual partners to reduce the risk of reinfection to yourself and others
